Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)

IMS is a therapeutic treatment using fine needles that are inserted into tight areas of the muscle with the aim of releasing the shortened and tender/painful bands within the muscle. These tight/shortened portions of the muscle can press on and irritate the nerves as well as cause added tension force to the tendons and ligaments. The IMS system of assessment and treatment focuses on treating the spinal segment as well as the peripheral muscles innervated by this spinal segment.

When the shortened muscle ‘grasps’ the needle you will feel a sensation like a cramp or deep muscle ache followed by a feeling of relaxation.

IMS has been found to be very effective for chronic pain and conditions such as headache, whiplash. low back pain, tennis elbow, and tendinitis.
